SO. CALIF. AND MEXICO AMATEUR RADIO MOBILE GROUP MEETING.
A breakfast meeting was held on Sun Feb 10th at the New Convention Center in Long Beach. Our past President and President of the Local Flying Samaritans, Nash Williams presented a slide narration of their activities in Mexico.

28 MHz BEACON STATIONSRegion I of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) has been developing a group of beacon stations in the 10meter band since 1969, for the purpose of encouraging the participation of amateur observers in the stud of varlous aspects of propagation. The International Beacon Project (IBP) has the following stations in operation:

GEORGE WAGONER, WB6NPP,
was stricken with a heart attack almost a year ago (Mar 21st). Since then, George has been on disability from his job in Section 712 as a Plumber. George was with the Lab for 18 years and a Club member from the time it was reorganized. He has been able to resume some ham activity and can be found on 6 meters. Last year, a number of club members sent George their QSL cards with cheery notes of good wishes. Anyone wishing to let George that they're thinking of him and wish to make him feel some brighter, can send a card to:

The Space Center Amateur Radio Society will be participating in the annual United Cerebral Palsy Telethon February 9 and 10 on WDBO-TV Channel 6.
Communications for the telecast have for some years been provided by members of several amateur radio clubs in the central Florida area. The Space Center Amateur Radio Society will set up a radio station in the Barnett Bank of Cam operating on the two meter (144-148 MM band to provide communications from the Brevard County telephone centers in Titusville, Cocoa and Melbourne, to the Orlando Auditorium where the telecasts originates.
A two meter repeater station In Orlando receives the signals from each of the surrounding counties and retransmits them on another frequency so that a member in the auditorium can talk with the station here using a small hand held walkie talkie, using the repeater relay.
The same principle is used by the OSCAR-6 (Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio) communications satellite now in its second year designed and built by the AMSAT (Amateur Radio Satellite Corporation).
OSCAR-7 will be launched as a piggyback payload by NASA this summer and will provide additional capabilities.
The Space Center Amateur Radio Society in cooperation with the Amateur Radio Relay League is assisting the NASA Public Affairs Educational Programs Office in establishing an amateur radio OSCAR ground station for the Visitor Information Center. In addition to providing improved communications among "Hams" around the world the OSCAR satellite, built by an international design team, is providing a free communications channel for classroom demonstrations, transmission of medical data from remote locations and other experimental programs, as a graphic example of the use and benefits of space technology directly by the public.
